Thursday 28th April 2016, Lebanese authorities said a top Islamic State operative has been killed in a military raid in a town bordering Syria.
According to the authorities, the Islamic State operative has been identified as Nayef Shaalan.
Nayef Shaalan was killed in the operation conducted in the volatile northeastern border town of Arsal, the army revealed in a statement.
According to a report by the National News Agency, one of Shaalan's bodyguards was killed and another one arrested in the operation.
Lebanon has been faced by militancy challenging, battling extremists near the border with Syria since August 2014, when the IS and al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front briefly overran the border town.
