The desperate journey to run from war-torn Libya across the Mediterranean Sea to seek refuge in Italy due to the several attacks has led to the death of more than 5,000 migrants.
Libya has experienced gruesome terror attacks which the Islamic State has claimed responsibility and in some cases, the extremists have uploaded videos through Twitter handles affiliated to these groups.
Recently, the Islamic State claimed responsibility in the killing of close to 30 Ethiopian Christians having previously beheaded 21 Egyptian Christians along the Mediterranean beach.
The situation in Libya is worsening day by day. The Islamic State has also claimed responsibility for the embassy attacks in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
Since Muamar Gaddafi was ousted in 2001, attacks by the Islamic State in Libya have led to chaos up to date. These militants have so far established caliphates in three of Libya’s historic regions.
Neighboring country Tunisia has also experienced severe attacks by the Islamic State. Such have hard hit Tunisia’s tourism sector since foreigners feel threatened and insecure to visit these north African countries.
