Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have announced that both nations ought to consolidate their efforts, especially in security and peace. The meeting between President Samia Suluhu and President Felix Tshisekedi was held on the sidelines of the 42nd ordinary summit of heads of state and government of the SADC that was held in Kinshasa, DRC.
The two Heads of State insisted on the need to consolidate a regional architecture of Peace and Security both for SADC and for the EAC. The two Heads of State also insisted on the need to consolidate the regional architecture of Peace and Security for both SADC and EAC. Both regions have a standing threat caused by the emerging and growing groups affiliated in Mozambique which borders Tanzania to the south and ISCAP in DRC.
While DRC just recently joined the EAC, it appears to lean towards the bloc for the security issues as they wait for the deployment of a regional force in North Kivu and Ituri provinces. The consolidation of the peace and security strategies is believed to be a key step towards curtailing the vast recruitment network that has been furnishing the jihadist network in Tanzania, Mozambique, Somalia, and DRC.
