OSINT SUMMARY
Fate of new Taliban emir Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansour is surrounded by uncertainty after emerging conflicting reports of a shootout in Pakistan.
According to local television channel 1TV, Taliban chief was injured in a frictional fighting in Quetta city of Pakistan early this week (Tuesday 1st December 2015).
There have been several tweets going round on various jihadists tweeter feeds indicating that Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour died of injuries.
The same report has been stressed by Afghanistan officials on Friday that the Taliban chief succumbed to the injuries.
There has been rift within Taliban top leadership. The reports of the firefight at the leadership meeting emerged as a breakaway Taliban faction led by Mullah Mohammad Rasul challenged Mansour’s leadership.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has forcefully denied those reports terming them as baseless.
However, Taliban terrorist group has little credibility on such matters as the terrorist group once denied the death of former emir Mullah Omar only to admit about his death in August 2015 after more than two years of cover-up.
