A suicide vehicle bound improvised explosive device (SVBIED) has ripped through a crowded market in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu ending the lives of at least 20 people.
In an effort to remain relevant, Al-Shabaab pulled one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the recent years, media has reported.
“The suspect attacker parked his car, and then detonated it when the security personnel asked him to move the car away,” said Waberi district commissioner Husein Ahmed Ulosow. “He attempted to escape with injuries but the security forces apprehended him and now he is in custody.’
The car bomb happened at open air market in city’s Afesyoni neighborhood –the entrance of the Beerta market which is close to airport.
This act of cowardly targeting soft joints has strongly been condemned.
Security forces sealed off the blast scene and conducted emergency operation on those injured being rushed to hospitals.
VOA Somali reporters at the scene confirmed at least 20 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in the blast.
The Al- Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab which is behind the suicide blast has not commented on its cowardly act of killing innocent Somali’s.
