Mombasa, KENYA: Police on Saturday 25/3/2017 arrested a suspected ringleader of the deadly Watalia criminal gang in the Likoni area of Mombasa.
The assailant identified as Nicholas Wandera also known as ‘soldier’ was arrested by a special team of police officers who had been tracking him for several months. He was arrested in Vyemani area of Likoni.
The arrest comes barely a week after 13 members of the criminal gang were arrested in Celtel area of Likoni.
Police termed his arrest as success saying manhunt of other gang members will continue until criminal elements of gangs such as Wakali Kwanza, Wakali Wao and Watalia are eliminated in Mombasa.
“We have been interrogating the suspects we seized last week and they gave us vital information which led to arrest of the suspect,”Likoni police boss Willy Simba said.
Sources probing the suspect indicate that Wandera was the leader of 25 “battalion army” all armed with crude weapons.
The suspected gang member has been grappling with law enforcers as the number of criminal gangs in the area rise day by day.
