A suicide on Monday reportedly attacked on of Islam’s holiest sites.
The attacker detonated his explosive vest in Saudi city of Medina close to the Prophet’s Mosque. Medina is considered to be the second holiest place in Islam.
Images obtained by international media such as Reuters showed smoke rising from the vicinity of the Mosque.
Other images on social media showed a vehicle on fire in a car park with two security officers lying nearby.
According to a report by Saudi-owned al-Arabiya TV, the bomber attacked at a time security officers were breaking their Ramadan fast.
The attack has received condemnation as an insult to the Islam ideologies and a religion of peace.
The iconic Mosque is the burial place of the Prophet Muhhamed and Medina is the second holiest city in Islam after Mecca.
