Somalia’s government has vowed to fully equip its forces to take over the country’s security from AU forces when they pull out from the peacekeeping mission in coming months. A three-day national security conference attended by the country’s top leaders, regional leaders, top security officials and Ministers was concluded on Tuesday evening in Baidoa town.
In a communiqué, the leaders agreed to extend training and sharpening the skills of the security forces to restore peace in the country. The National Security Council (NSC) has unanimously passed the Transitional Plan which facilitates the transferring Security responsibility from AU to Somali forces in a period of not more than four years.
The first step has been coined as securing and reopening the Main Supply Route linking Baidoa and towns an operation to be conducted by Southwest Paramilitary Police forces backed by Somali national army.
