Somalia’s new president during his inauguration on Wednesday 22/2/2017 called on Al-Shabaab to surrender promising his people that the era of Al-Shabaab and other militant groups was over.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed better known as Farmajo, called on thousands of fighters to denounce terrorists’ groups promising to integrate them back into the society.
"To those who work with Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab and IS (Islamic State), your time is finished," he said at the inauguration ceremony, attended by the leaders of neighbouring states.
"You have been misled, destroyed property and killed many Somalis. Come and we shall give you good life," part of his inauguration speech read.
Somalia has been grappling for years from conflict brought forth by clan militias. Then for the past several years, the horn of African nation faced an insurgency from Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab.
The terrorist group has been fighting to topple the government. The government has made significant gains in fighting the Islamist group with the help of regional troops (AMISOM).
