Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire has inspected bases and checkpoints manned by Somali forces in Mogadishu during the Holy month of Ramadan. The surprise visit to different sector forces tasked to beef up the security of Mogadishu during the month of Ramadan is expected to avert any attack aimed at citizens in the capital.
The tour was aimed at assessing the security condition of the town which has suffered several attacks by the al Shabaab mainly using IEDs targeting crowded places in Mogadishu. The beefed-up security is mainly as a preventative measure seeing as Al Shabaab militants have vowed to strike targets in Somalia during the Holy Month. Additionally, in the past months, al Shabaab has taken a more radical turn by attacking indiscriminately at both security officers and civilian populations.
