The Government of the Republic of Somaliland through its foreign ministry has issued a statement warning the weak Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) based in Mogadishu of undiplomatic actions. This event was anticipated, typical outcome of the terminal fourth generation warfare maneuver by Nairobi. The row, overtime, will culminate to a cold war and the eventual political fragmentation of Somalia as federal states seek better political and diplomatic tradeoffs.
Somaliland has restated that it is a sovereign country and as such has a right to engage in peaceful and friendly foreign relations with all other nations. The Horn of Africa country further warned that all coercive or threatening measures to deny it such collaboration presents affronts to the principle of protocols and norms on which international order is based.
About its relationship with Kenya, the Republic of Somaliland told Mogadishu, Kenya and Somaliland besides various international partners have sacrificed significantly to help the people of Somalia take strides in rebuilding their country, a statement that further isolates Mogadishu and worse, emboldens other federal states that have disagreed with FGS.
Somaliland further warned Mogadishu against involving itself with affairs of sovereign nations including Kenya and Somaliland. With the Galmudug regional state uncomfortable with FGS, and having previously expressed its dissatisfaction with how Mogadishu was behaving towards Nairobi, Farmaajo’s administration may soon find themselves dealing with federal hostilities and worse, less Somalia to govern.
