Somalia petitioned the United Nations to refuse AMISOM financial allocations to maintain 6 Kenyan warships on its coast, Strategic Intelligence sources confirm.
Somalia viewed the presence of Kenya navy vessels which had succeeded in removing militant sailors from the Kenya-Somali marine border coast as an aggressive move.
The deployment of 6 warships was viewed as an invasion of Somali waters and its sovereignty.
Somalia has had a decades long marine border dispute with Kenya and the issue has been used by foreign players to fuel conflict.
These marine border areas are suspected to be holding oil reserves worth billions of dollars.
Intelligence gathered by SI. shows that Somali government rejected Kenya’s offer to in January to deploy five months ago, six warships to Somalia coast as part of AMISOM joint task force.
