16th December 2015, recent military reports reveal that Somalia National Army and Ethiopian troops operating under the banner of African Union Mision in Somalia (AMISOM) launched a joint military force against the Al Qaeda affiliated Al Shabaab militants in localities under Beledweyne town, headquarters of Hiiraan region.
Elbuur district commissioner Nur Hassan Guutale confirmed to the journalists of the local media saying that the intensified offensives are intended to clear Al Shabaab elements from their hideouts in Galgaduud region.
The commissioner pointed out that Elbuur locality and the neighbouring villages are the most targeted and believed to harbor significant number of Islamist fighters.
