A U.S. delegation led by the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs arrived in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Monday 9th May 2016 to hold discussions on the upcoming elections.
According to a press statement released from the office of the President, the U.S. delegation held discussions with Somali leaders led by Somalia’s Federal government President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid and several ministers.
The discussion touched on election logistics, where they discussed matters touching on political progress, election preparedness, security, effort on fight against terrorism and bilateral relations.
U.S. has welcomed Somalia’s forthcoming elections as an important step to the country and to the regional stability.
The U.S. delegation reaffirmed (U.S) continued support to the process and development of the war torn Somalia.
