Somalia has appointed General Mohamed Hassan Hamud as the new police commander after the seat fell vacant in October last year.
The new police commander takes up office when security in the country has greatly affected the lives of people living along the Horn of Africa.
The decline in security has been majorly caused by Al Shabaab militants based in Somalia. This group has been terrorizing its government and the people in a bid to create an Islamic caliphate within the country-Somalia.
The effects have trickled down to Kenya, leading to the invasion of Kenya Defence Forces into Somalia for peacekeeping mission since October 2011.

The new appointment comes a few days after Somali government had given stern warning over possible Al Shabaab attack in Mogadishu, calling for public vigilance and alertness.
General Mohamed Hassan Hamud is expected to work with the AMISOM troops in Somalia to ensure and end to these insurgents, al-Shabaab.
Al Shabaab militants are on the other hand debating on whether to pledge their allegiance to the Islamic State, following an intense hit by Kenya Defence Forces who destroyed their dens during their operation.
This is said to be a strategy used by these militants to seek help in funding and weaponry to be used in their terrorism activities.
Somalis has further assured its neighbors of its continued support in the war against terrorism-Al Shabaab-who are based within the country.
