The historical handing over of power to General Samson Mwathethe as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) took place on Monday, placing upon him the greatest challenge of eliminating Al Shabaab threat both internally and externally.
General Samson MWathethe takes over from Rtd. Gen Julius Karangi who has devoted his service to the country for 42 years as the Chief of Defence Forces.
Appointed just three months before Kenya Defence Forces troops began their journey on peacekeeping mission to Somalia, Rtd. Gen Karangi has shown tremendous performance and due diligence in his service as CDF.

Kenya expects nothing less from Gen. Mwathethe.
General Samson Mwathethe has vowed to work closely with other security agents and government institutions to ensure that the security docket in the country goes a notch higher.
He has further vowed to carry the success mantle Karangi handed over to him, to see to it that Kenya and Somalia is completely liberated from Somalia based Al Shabaab militia group.
General Samson Mwathethe takes up office when Kenya’s security depertment is working round the clock to ensure that the country’s stability takes shape once again.
Being sworn into office after President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him, the confidence bestowed upon him in relation to the country’s security should not go to the drains.
General Samson Mwathethe has taken over from Karangi who has served in the forces for more than four decades.
