1st February 2016: The Federal Government of Somalia and the UK government signed a deal that will engage intelligence and security cooperation between the two nations in a bid to counter threats from the Harakat Al Shabaab al Mujahideen in Somalia.
The deal was signed by Somalia’s defence Minister Gen. Abdiqadir Ali Dini and UK’s Somalia ambassador Hurriet Mathews in Mogadishu in a move that is set to give Somalia an upper hand against the militants.
The UK will help Somalia rebuild the security agencies restoring faith in them and establish close security cooperation to defeat the terrorists that undermine the internationally backed government in Somalia especially ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
UK is among many international actors that have rallied their resources and expertise in the war against al Shabaab in Somalia and generally in the Horn of Africa.
