On 29th July 2018, the Somali based salafist Islamist group Shabaab Mujahideen issued a statement claiming it took control of the frontier town of Shaatilow, an area between Luuq and Doolow in Gedo province of Somalia. The terror group stormed the strategic Somali National Army barracks in the town after orchestrating a large scale infantry attack. The barracks serves as the command and operations center for the upper North-West and Western area of the Gedo prefecture of Somalia.
The terrorist organization attacked another army base outside the capital Mogadishu on Monday morning 30th July 2018. The continued attacks on SNA bases and barracks demonstrates the organization capability to mount attacks across the country and remain focused on deposing the weak federal government in Mogadishu. Mogadishu continues to seek solutions to the problem, solutions that include making peace with countries and groups that in the past supported and financed the terrorist group.
