22nd January, 2016: President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh has condemned the al Shabaab attack on Lido’s Beach and termed it as ultimate cowardice.
Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack that killed at least 20 people most of them women, children and unarmed visitors of the restaurant.
President Sheikh said that the al Shabaab have become desperate in their attacks as exhibited in their attempts to seek legitimacy in their mother-terror groups. He further commended the quick response time by the Somali National Army and other security agencies an evidence of boosted morale and better trained personnel.
Al Shabaab in the month of January 2016 are desperately trying to inflict casualties both on the AMISOM troops and Somali civilians as an act of psychological warfare aimed at instilling fear and undermine the confidence in the forces ability to protect the Somali citizenry.
