The police in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu have issued a warning of a likely al Shabaab attack purported to be conducted by a vehicle laden with explosives. The advisor comes a week after a similar-style suicide attack killed 15 people and injured many others.
Speaking during a press conference in Mogadishu, Somali Police Force Deputy Commissioner, Colonel Zakia Hussein urged members of the public to be extra vigilant about the imminent threat.
Col. Zakia displayed the photo of a Toyota Prado vehicle saying the police obtained intelligence report indicating Al-Shabaab plans to use VBIED Prado car for explosion attack.
The alert by the police comes just days after joint Somali National Army and AMISOM operation in Sabiid town thwarted what could have been one of the deadliest explosive attacks in the country. The troops successfully destroyed a tank truck full of explosives destined for Mogadishu.
The alert also comes after a massive security operation was launched in Mogadishu especially targeting vehicle getting int the CBD as a way to smoke out and prevent further attacks in the East African country. Also, reports indicate that the public has grown more cooperative in aiding security officer in tracking and rooting out al Shabaab terrorists operating in Mogadishu and its environs.
