March 1, 2016: Somali Police Chief General Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud has announced a shakeup in the police ranks in Mogadishu and other major cities in Somalia following a spate of bombings and attacks.
The new changes are expected to address the currently high levels of insecurity in the towns and their outskirts. The police chief is expecting to bring fresh blood into the security sectors with new strategies to deal with the insecurity.
Hassan Hamud has urged the Somali people to assist with the process, report any cases of crime, insecurity and all incompetent police officers as the do a mop-up to the police force.
The police shakeup comes as the al Shabaab have increased attacks mainly in Mogadishu targeting AMISOM troops and other high-ranking officials.
