Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency has vehemently accused the country’s media for overstepping and abusing the media freedom in Somalia.
It was in a statement sent to media houses illustrating the extent of the media freedom misuse by journalist following the arrest of two Universal Television journalists.
Analysis:
Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in a statement sent to news room in Somalia accused the media in Somalia of misusing and overstepping the media freedom they enjoy in Somalia.
The statement was issued after public outcry from the media fraternity in Somalia over the arrest and detaining of two London-based Somali Universal TV journalists and the closure of their broadcast signals and offices.
NISA accusations are fueled by the recent media freedom misuse by the media agencies in Somalia to create unnecessary tension, incite the public and public defamation of leaders setting off suspicion and general tension among the governing ranks and hopelessness among the general populace.
In reference to the Universal TV journalists (Abdullahi Hersi Kulmiye and Awul Dahir) arrest NISA warned of similar other media personalities in the country against damaging government’s efforts in repairing relationships with her international early and or expression of any sentiments that would jeopardize the country’s security and or stability.
Conclusion:
While governments across the globe are tasked with respecting and allowing media freedom, it is the moral obligation of all media agencies on countries to spread the message of hope impartially and with undeterred biasness.
Media in conflict-struck or volatile countries like Somalia are expected at all times to refrain from public incitement and or creating public tension rather inspire hope among the people without abusing the media freedom given.
