The Somali National Army on Sunday captured four key al Shabaab strongholds located in lower and middle Shabelle regions. The SNA through the commander of the troops in the area said that the soldiers wrestled the militants and after holding them to a fight, the vacated and fled the area to avoid being dealt significant blows.
The SNA has since embarked on an operation to clear the area of mines planted by the al Shabaab as they prepare for a major operation against the mujahedeen geared at eradicating the militants and completely liberating the region.
The win by the SNA comes as state and federal government leaders conclude a meeting that discussed a joint assault against the al Shabaab following the October Mogadishu attack that killed over 350 people. Moreover, neighboring countries have reaffirmed their support to the federal government either in finances or additional troop contribution.
