Somali military court on Thursday 21st November sentenced an Al-Shabaab operative to death for taking part in a well-coordinated raid on a religious centre in Somalia’s central town, Galkayo.
Heavily armed Al-Shabaab operatives had last year attacked on the compound of a cleric identified as Abdiweli Ali Elmi.
The terror operative identified as Abdullahi Ali Mohamed is believed to be part of the fighters was captured in joint military operation.
Mohamed who had sustained injuries during the raid underwent treatment before he was brought before a military court where he charged with terrorism and murder.
The military court found him guilty of terrorism and taking part in the murder of over 10 people in Galkayo town and was given a month to seek an appeal to challenge the verdict.
The attack happened on 26th November 2018, Al-Shabaab operatives rammed a car bomb into the gate of the headquarters of the Sufi cleric Sheikh Abdiweli Ali Elmi followed by storming the compound, killing Elmi and 14 of his congregation.
