Somali National Army troops are preparing for a major offensive aimed at liberating Lower Shabelle region from Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab militants.
The heavily armed forces have been deployed to areas in Lower Shabelle to battle Al-Shabaab remnants.
Lower Shabelle region remains one of Al-Shabab’s biggest strongholds in southern Somalia.
In April this year, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo of Somalia has declared a war against Al-Shabaab militant group, which has been fighting for years to topple Somali government in Mogadishu.
