Somali Forces on Tuesday 27/3/2018 killed two Al-Shabaab militants and recaptured several villages in Bay region from the Al-Qaeda (AQ) linked group fighters.
According to the state officials, the forces launched military operations and engaged the fighters in El-Dhun village near Gofgudud-Burey after receiving reports the militants were collecting extortion money from locals who use a water well.
The forces killed two group’s fighters. One government soldiers also in the firefight.
Mohamed Adan, a local administer in Goofgaduud Burey locality confirmed on the military operations saying the forces took control of villages including El-Dhun Waregow village after Al-Shabaab fighters were defeated.
The chief vowed to increase the fight against Al-Shabaab Islamists and liberate the areas under the control of the group in Bay region.
In recent weeks, Somali forces and AMISOM troops have been carrying out operations to smoke out Al-Shabaab from Bay and Bakool regions.
The AQ-Al-Shabaab once controlled most areas in South and Central Somalia but has since lost nearly all its territory over the last six years to Somali forces and AMISOM troops.
