Somali forces and African Union peacekeeping mission forces in Somalia (AMISOM) were targeted with IED attacks on Sunday 9th September 2019.
At least five soldiers killed on Sunday when a roadside blast targeted Burundian-AMISOM convoy in South Middle Shabelle region Somalia media reported.
Media reports show that the attacks took near African Union forces base in Burane vicinity near the town of Mahaday in Middle Shabelle region.
“At least five people, mostly Amisom soldiers from Burundi, were killed and several others wounded after their convoy was targeted in double explosions near Mahaday district,” local radio broadcast Risaala reported.
In another separate raid on Monday morning, a Somali police General was injured after an explosive device connected to his car exploded somewhere near the seaport in Mogadishu.
Targeted assassinations of key government officials have become quite familiar in Somalia.
Last month, former secretary of Banadir regional administration Mohamed Amin was killed in such car bombing near KM4 junction in the capital of Mogadishu. The attack was claimed by Al-Qaeda aligned Al-Shabaab.
