Breaking reports from Somali media outlets indicate that Somali Commandos have completely overrun an ISIS training base in Janale, Middle Shabelle region Somalia.
Corresponding reports by Somali National News Agency indicate an ISIS training camp in Janale was completely destroyed on Tuesday 3rd May 2016 by Somali Commando raid.
“We have successfully annihilated a training camp which the so called ISIS militias were having trainings, and we are in pursuing their trainers who are taking cover within the vicinity, and we shall not be ending this operation unless we apprehend them” a senior Commando officer who was in the raid was quoted.
According to the Somali media reports, the pro-ISIS trainees in the camp were killed in numbers while the commandos are still hunting down the trainers/leaders believed to be within vicinity.
ISIS in Somalia is an off-shoot of the Al Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab. Fighters from Al-Shabaab decamped the group led by Sheikh Muumin to create a small pro-ISIS group in Somalia.
The defections have created greater enmity between the two factions.
