Somalia National Army is said to have conducted a strategic military withdrawal from the village of Daynunay, about 20km east of Baidoa where a military based is located as a way to access the reach of al Shabaab in the area. At the same time, the al Shabaab are said to have taken advantage of the situation to sneak into the village to preach and attempt to threaten the locals.
SNA has however maintained that they are in total control of the situation and have since surrounded the area which will ensure the capture or neutralization of all al Shabaab elements in the village. Furthermore, a high-profile recently concluded in Baidoa which will see increased security operations on the militants and especially in the central and southern parts of the country.
Military sources say that the military was acting on intelligence acquired and that the troops are preparing to conduct a massive operation against the al Shabaab in Baidoa and Daynunay was the first phase of the operation.
