Somali National Army troops seized illegal small arms and military uniforms in a major security sweep conducted in the capital Mogadishu on Monday morning.
According to Abdirahman Omar Osman Yarisow, the Minister of Information, and Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, the operation carried out jointly Police, Military and Intelligence units in Wadajir and Shangani districts, saw dozens of illegal weapons including AK 47 rifles, pistols and stolen military uniforms captured.
The authorities further confirmed that the seized items reached the commanding center of joint forces in Wardhigley, where the weapons were paraded.
Monday’s operation was part of the stabilization process of the capital before Ramadhan.
