Somali National Army has announced that following a clash with Al Shabaab fighters in Marka town, the troops killed at least 13 militants and injured several others. Marka is located some 91km southwest of the country’s capital Mogadishu.
According to military sources, the fighting broke out at Marka Jilib in the coastal town of Marka, after Somali army forces launched a joint military offensive against small villages held by Al Shabaab.
Al Shabaab has suffered major losses in the past few days with combined efforts from the various partners in Somalia killing at least 50 militants either through aerial bombardment or ground offensives in various parts of the country.
