Somalia National Army (SNA) supported by Jubbaland forces conducted a joint military operation to flush out Al-Shabaab militants in Lower Shabelle and killed several A-Shabaab fighters.
According to military officials the joint operation will continue with an aim to flush out Al-Shabaab elements hiding in keys areas of Lower Shabelle of Somalia.
Al-Shabaab has escalated attacks across the regions if Somalia and extending its campaigns to the neighbouring country, Kenya. In the past six months the Al-Qaeda linked group has reportedly claimed 418 attacks.
Out of these claims, 111 have taken place in Lower Shabelle, 125 in Banadir region, 29 in Bay, 26 in Lower Juba and 23 in Middle Shabelle. Lower Shabelle region remains a fluid region where Al-Shabaab resurgence is rife with several operational bases. Other areas of southern Somalia; Gedo, Lower Juba, and Bakool, also had claimed terror operations but in relatively small numbers.
