Federal government forces (FGS) were on Wednesday ambushed by Al-Shabaab militants at the outskirts of Afgoye district of Lower Shabelle region.
A convoy transporting FGS forces was reported to have been ambushed by armed Shabaab militants while on their way to Sabiib town.
Government officials in Lower Shabelle did not comment on the ambush attack that targeted the government forces but the Al-Qaeda aligned Shabaab through their pro-media claimed responsibility of the evening low scale raid.
The government forces backed by AMISOM forces reported to have regained control.
Al-Shabaab, which is fighting in the southern region of Somalia routinely targets AU forces and government bases in the country.
