OSINT reports from Somalia indicate that security forces including SNA conducted a major clean-up operation to remove illegal roadblocks planted by armed militias and militants in Lower Shabelle region.
Following constant complaints by travelers and transport vehicle owners, security forces over the weekend launched clean-up operations on major roads whereby the militias and militants have planted illegal road blockades to extort and collect revenues from vehicles/users.
On Monday 8th August 2016, Somali police forces and SNA announced that the operation launched over the weekend has apprehended several armed men in Leego town.
According to Leego district officer Abukar Abdulahi Isack the operation was meant to create safe access for the locals and will continue until all the roads in the region are safe and off the militias as well as Al-Shabaab operatives.
