1st December 2015, Somalia National Army (SNA) supported by African Union Forces from Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have managed to overpower Al Shabaab militants, dislodging them out of Aysoora town and its sorrounding, located some 280 kilometers south West of Mogadishu, Somalia.
Last week, UPDF contingent launched an operation code-named ‘Fagia Adui’ which means ‘sweep the enemy’ in Kiswahili.
According to Capt. Flavia Terimulungi, the UPDF contingent spokesperson, the joint operation that began at dawn subdued the Al Shabaab militants forcing them to flee, some leaving their families behind.
The Al Qaeda branch in Somalia had the control of a stretch of 79 kilometers from Subley to Baraawe Port which has been their main supply point and source of revenue for the insurgents.
The Somali based jihadists have also used Aysoora town and locality as a base to carry out attacks on Baraawe district.
The dawn operations were a success and similar operations are being undertaken by AMISOM to crumble down the economic lifelines of the Al Shabaab militant group.
