Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that Somali National Army (SNA) and African Union Forces have taken full control of strategic town of Janaale following days of heavy fighting and mortar shelling.
Since the Al Qaeda affiliated branch in Somalia attacked an AMISOM camp in Janaale manned by Uganda’s UPDF last year 2015, the key town in Lower Shabelle region, southern Somalia has harboured Al-Shabaab militants.
Confirming the takeover, Janaale administrator Abdirahman Yusuf Abdinur said allied forces managed to battle out the elements of Al-Shabaab disrupting the peace of local residents.
Abdinur also confirmed dozen elements of Al-Shabaab killed as tried to resist the takeover of the key town.
The allied forces are now in full control of the area including police station and district administration headquarters.
