A senior Al-Shabaab commander was killed in Hiran region of Somalia in joint military counter-terrorism operations (Ops) on Tuesday, midday.
According to Military Intelligence assets in Somalia, the terror commander identified as Ibrahim Abdi Tureey was the head of the Al-Shabaab in charge of Hiran region. He was killed alongside another mid-level commander identified as Hassan Yare, who headed the mines (IEDs) section.
The two were killed in operations conducted by the forces between Jalalaqsi and Bulo Burte in Hiiraan region.
In other joint Ops conducted south in Lower Jubba, 15 Al-Shabaab militants were felled by SNA and Jubbaland forces. The Al-Qaeda affiliated fighters were neutralized in Bandar-Jadid area near Arare town of Afmadow.
One of the militants was captured alive, military sources added. Also, on Sunday, SNA claimed to have killed 9 Al-Shabaab fighters and injured 6 others in Qoryoley, Lower Shabelle in southern region of Somalia.
The joint counter-terrorism operations come amid persistent targeted raids on SNA-FOBs in southern regions of Somalia in the past recent weeks.
