Somali National Army (SNA) has said that troops killed a senior al Shabaab tax collector in Jalalaqsi region of central Somalia. According to Mohamad Nur Caga Jof, governor of Jalalaqsi, the operation conducted by the SNA with support from the AMISOM allied troops killed the commander and a few of his foot soldiers were killed.
The forces killed the militant who represented al-Shabab in collecting taxes in Jalalaqsi and burnt combat vehicles used by the militants. Residents in nearby towns said that gunfight broke out in Jalalaqsi and lasted for several hours.
Somali national forces and African Union Mission in Somalia intensified the operations on al-Shabab militants in central and southern Somalia, conducting consecutive operations to flush out al-Qaida linked group from these regions.
