Security forces defused at least three vehicles fitted with explosives in different localities of southern Somalia. Military sources indicate that Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive devices (VBIEDs) were neutralized in Kunya-Barrow, Jilib, Haramka localities of southern Somalia.
Joint security forces conducted separate operations in the mentioned areas aided by intelligence from locals.
Counterterrorism operations against the Islamist militants, Al-Shabaab operating in Somalia and sporadically attacks Kenya continue to deal blows to the jihadist group affiliated to Al-Qaeda terrorist network.
Last week, foreign troops backed Somali National Army (SNA) and captured some key areas in Qeycad, in Mudug region, after heavy battle against Al-Shabaab fighters. The joint troops also recovered a large number of weapons and communication equipment during the operation in Mudug, central Somalia which lately has become epicenter of Al-Shabaab’s operations.
Also, US in the past three weeks conducted three air bombardments targeting terrorist bases in Mudug region in support of Somali forces effort to degrade Al-Shabaab.
