Security forces Leego location in the Lower Shabelle is carrying out wide counter-terror operations in search of Al-Shabaab fighters. OSINT reports indicate that over a dozen suspected terrorists have been arrested.
According to Commissioner of Leego, Abukar Abdullahi, the security operations are aimed at against fighting with Al-Shabaab as well as illegal highway checkpoints used to extort money by the terrorist group.
The general security situation has improved for the better in Leego due to intensified security operations across the locality and surrounding areas. The operation has seen assortment of weapon including the common AK47 rifles used by Al-Shabaab recovered from those arrested.
Many illegal checkpoints are in Lower Shabelle region manned by armed terrorists who are attired in similar uniform with Federal Government soldiers to avoid recognition.
