On Tuesday 12th July 2016, suspected Al-Shabaab militants reportedly target a security convoy at Baure in coastal town of Lamu.
Security sources reports the militants had planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the road targeting police and military vehicle that are frequent on that road.
According to Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri, an Al-Shabaab cell believed to be the one behind the IEDs along the Kiangwe-Majengo road in the coastal region.
Security officers following on intelligence report managed to detonate the IEDs and security officers comprising of police and Kenya army launch Al-Shabaab manhunt in the area.
Lamu County Commissioner warned the locals in Mangai, Baure, Kiangwe and Milimani areas on harbouring Al-Shabaab elements in their houses and even providing them with supplies.
He called on them to provide intelligence to the security authorities near them for action and preempt and possible attack.
