9th February 2016, Saudi Arabia has announced that it will send troops to Syria to bolster war on terror, a move that has been welcomed by U.S.
Saudi offered it will deploy Special Forces to support a possible coalition ground operation inside Syria against ISIS and other militant groups such as the al-Nusra Front.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir speaking in Washington on Monday 8th February 2016, revealed that his country’s willingness to send special forces to Syria is contingent on the U.S. leading the ground effort.
However, the Minister declined to discuss potential Saudi troop numbers, deployment dates or targets only saying Saudi forces will be part of an international coalition in the fight against terror.
Saudi Arabia has so far focused its attention on another civil war in the region especially the one in Yemen.
A Saudi-led coalition is fighting Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who captured the capital of Sana’a in January 2015.
