A series of brutal Saudi airstrikes has led to widespread destruction and loss of lives in Yemen besides displacing thousands of Yemenis, some of whom are seeking refuge in Northern Somalia. Dozens of Yemenis have already been registered as refugees in Somaliland and Puntland, the two semi-autonomous and relatively stable states in the Horn of Africa region. Hundreds more are flocking on the port town of Berbera. More refugees are expected as many Yemenis flee the Yemeni city of Taiz for the safety of the Gulf of Aden town of Berbera.
Saudi Arabia presently leads a coalition of Sunni nations in an increasingly sectarian offensive on Shiite Houthis who captured the seats of power in Yemen a few months ago. Iran has pledged to support their Shiite comrades in the current sectarian war in Yemen.
Fractious Somalia is also being used by Saudi Arabia as a base for launching attacks against Houthis who are ironically still advancing on the port City of Aden. Yemen currently hosts over 200,000 Somali refugees who escaped war, famine and poverty back home, but the recent developments in the Red Sea nation have reversed the flow of refugees as Somalia is currently poised to host thousands of Yemeni refugees.
