Counter Terrorism & CVE is continuously evolving. Newer strategies, pragmatic and philosophical, are replacing traditional remedies. The threat keeps evolving and growing thus poses a persistent challenge to state security agencies. To match the evolution of this persistent threat, newer approaches are nascent.
One critical aspect of CVE is community participation in combating the vice. Terrorists exploit socioeconomic and sociopolitical gaps in the society to push their ideology. Social attitudes towards terrorism and counter terrorism require broad research and analysis to bring forth more robust and pragmatic counter terrorism strategies.
If the public and communities develop negative attitudes towards state interventions, terrorist’s ideology carries the day and as such, governments are outbid by terrorists. However, if public and communities embrace CVE and counter terrorism efforts, the process of defeating terror begins. Community participation in CVE and CT weakens terrorists support networks, particularly the grassroots socio-religious ones. Without grassroots support, terrorists cannot push their ideology, neither can they marshal financial or sociopolitical support.
