An elite Kenya police unit has killed a suspected member of the Somali terrorist group, Harakat Shabaab l Mujahideen. Wednesday 23rd June 2021 at around 0530hrs at Bombo area, Kiteje Sub Location, Ng’ombeni Location, Matuga Sub County within Kwale County, Coastal Kenya. The police operation was conducted approximately 5kms south of the area Police Patrol Base.
Police followed Intelligence leads about a suspected terror cell was planning to stage an attack targeting a security outpost within the coastal county of Kwale. The cell, according to intelligence had been tasked to raid the police outpost and target the armoury solely to capture weaponry, an indicator the cell wants to arm its members and escalate related activities in the area.
1 Militant was killed and 2 other escaped with gunshot injuries. An AK-47 Assault rifle was recovered besides over 100 rounds of ammo.
