Kizito Mihigo, a popular Rwandan singer and a former close ally of the Kagame government has admitted to terrorism charges in a court in Kigali.
Mihigo who is a genocide survivor and composer of songs about genocide and reconciliation, appeared is accused of planning to bomb Kigali.
The musician was arraigned in the packed courtroom along a radio journalist and two others accused of plotting terrorist attacks and planning to harm government officials.
Prosecutors argued that Kizito Mihigo has been working with National Congress and Congo-based rebels known as FDLR.
National Congress and Congo-based Rwandan rebels FDLR are accused of perpetrating the 1994 genocide that left nearly a million people dead.
Kizito Mihigo Arrest on Terror Charges
Mihigo was under arrest since April 11th after he was arrested by the police on suspicion of planning terror attacks.
The musician has been a close ally of the Kagame government and has been working on unity and reconciliation programs sponsored by the government.
Kizito Mihigo’s terror activities were pre-empted when his smart conversations with the National Congress and Congo-based Rwandan rebels FDLR operatives through whatssup were eavesdropped on by intelligence officials in Kigali.
