Puntland security forces listen to their commander in Garowe
Somali’s Puntland forces continue to prepare a major counter-terrorism operation to retake Qandala coastal town from ISIS.
The forces that left Bosaso are preparing to advance and launch a major offensive against a small fraction of ISIS claiming to be in control of Qandala.
Speaking to media, the vice president of Puntland Abdihakim Omar Amay said the army will keep on moving forward until Qandala is liberated from ISIS militants.
More than 700 of Qandala residents have fled their homes, fearing fresh fight between Puntland forces and pro-ISIS militants.
Media reports indicate that more than 50 pro-ISIS militants led by ex-Al-Shabab leader Abdikadir Mumin last month raided Qandala coastal town of Bari region. Reports gathered from Open Sources say the town is still under the ISIS control.
