Uganda’s specialized military and intelligence units have vowed to intensify their covert operations in Somalia following the recent massive truck bombing in Mogadishu. It was reached after intense bilateral talks between Uganda’s President Museveni and Somalia’s President Mohammed Abdullahi.
UPDF has been one of the most vigilante forces in the AMISOM and has promised to new and rejuvenated support in the new offensive against al Shabaab. The new support does not mention whether there will change in roles by the UPDF in troops. The Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Gen David Muhoozi recently traveled to Somalia where he met with senior Somalia commanders on building the country’s security forces to manage its challenges.
