Police in a dawn operation raided a home of a former RECCE Squad in Githurai 45 estate and recovered a cache of weapons.
The suspect has been identified as in police documents as police constable Eric Ngethe Kanyingi, service number 97861.
In 2014 the suspect deserted his job as an officer with the Elite Squad—RECCE unit.
Police spokesman confirmed on the operation and recovery of weapons saying the officers are hunting down the suspect who managed to escape and was treating his case like any other criminal.
However, claims that a section of police has been radicalized as misreported by a section of Kenyan mainstream publications has been termed as erroneous and utter nonsense.
Also, claims that the ex-cop was planning to attack GSU-RECCE Squad Ruiru headquarters as reported by the Star online publication has been termend as alarming, baseless and not factual.
Kenya's security agents have warned of media not verifying their security briefs with the right sources before publication saying not every crime is linked to terrorism activities as misreported in this case.
