Police on Tuesday 11th October 2016 – night conducted anti-human trafficking operation and nabbed 35 Ethiopians in the outskirts of Nairobi.
The 9 pm police operation was carried out in Ruai where Ethiopian nationals were found cramped in a house. Police are seeking the owner of the house whose whereabouts remains unknown.
Nairobi County police commander Japheth Koome confirmed of the night raid saying those in custody include two aged between 35 and 40 years while the rest he said are between 20 and 25 years of age.
The police boss noted language barrier saying none of them could speak English or Kiswahili calling for an interpreter to help with the interrogations.
Mr Koome added that the 35 will presented in court on charges probably being in the country illegally.
He however, said the police are pursuing to get the owner of the house and others who might have facilitated their travel into the country and charge them with human trafficking in court.
Police believe the nabbed Ethiopians were on transit to South Africa, saying is the most common route used to smuggle people from Ethiopia to Europe.
